On Friday, November 29, President of the Republic, Juan Carlos Varela announced, along with representatives of the Panamanian airline Copa Airlines, that from January 2015, will begin operations two flights to the city of David, located in the province of Chiriqui.

* As of January 2015 will begin operating two direct flights between David, in the province of Chiriqui, and the Hub of the Americas in Panama City.

* With the new route, Chiriqui further developed for the benefit of all its people.

* The implementation of this new route will increase tourism and commercial potential of this important Panamanian province, when connected directly to the main hub of Latin America and 69 international destinations.

Copa Airlines will now operate inside the country, specifically to the province of Chiriqui, which receives large amounts of tourists throughout the year. In an event that was hosted in Enrique Malek International Airport, were the President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela; Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines; Jesus Sierra, Administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), Joseph Fidanque III, General Manager of Tocumen International Airport, Alfredo Fonseca Mora, director of the Civil Aeronautics Authority and Rafael Stanziola, director of the National Assistance Program, including other representatives and authorities of the province of Chiriqui.

According to information published by the information portal Dia a Dia, President Varela said: “I congratulate Copa executives and entire workforce because you are not only taking the name of Panama very high but we also are leading to new destinations inside and outside of Panama. Thanks to the growth of Copa in recent years, the country and the Tocumen International Airport have been positioned as hub of the Americas.

With this new route Panama City-David, Chiriqui further developed for the benefit of all its people. Air connectivity is ideal for our growing economy complement of services including: our International Banking Center, the Colon Free Zone, the Panama Canal, as well as the rest of our Platform Multimodal Logistics Services. To this end, the Government of the Republic of Panama reaffirms its commitment to the establishment of the first Superior Bilingual Technical Institute, which will be built over the next five years based on the Singapore model, and will seat 10,000 students by creating a new offer academic in the areas of business and trade, logistics and tourism, technology and innovation, shocked the whole country, including the province of Chiriqui.

For his part, Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines, said the main interest of the Panamanian airline is “increasing tourism and commercial potential of this important Panamanian province, when connected directly to the main hub of Latin America and 69 international destinations”.
