Now Panama becomes the center of diamonds and precious stones in Latin America with the opening of the Diamond Exchange in the country. According to information published by the information portal Agencia de Noticias de Panama, Judy Meana, vice president of the company, said that on December 1st, will be given the building and the installation of companies, which already has started a total of 61 companies engaged in the marketing of diamonds and gems and jewelery. “This will be the center of Diamonds and precious stones in Latin America which will accommodate business and also have a trading floor to meet the need of products in this region through the exchange.”
In the region, there are about 11,500 outlets (jewelers) and is a market worth US $ 8,000 million annually. It is hoped that the establishment in Panama (the only one in this part of the continent) will grow the number of transactions.
The name of the Diamond Exchange will be Panama Gem & Jewelry Center, and will be located just five minutes from the airport and ten minutes from Santa María Golf & Country Club Business District, in the area of Llano Bonito, Juan Diaz. The investment in this infrastructure was more than US $ 200 million, and Grupo Verde Azul is responsible for its development, in conjunction with Grupo Los Pueblos, Santa María same developers.
In the first phase, will be awarded the building and enterprises shall be installed. The second phase will include the development of a high rise building where the lower floors will host offices and the “trading floor” of PDE latter located on the ground floor of the complex, a luxury shopping center with banks, support services specialized, restaurants and shops including fine jewelry.
The upper floors will be occupied by companies of diamonds, gemstones, pearls, precious metals and jewelry, as well as service providers to the industry, which began from March enrollment.
President of Grupo Verde Azul and former Minister of Economy and Finance of Panama, Alberto Vallarino, said “This is a world class project that will include a flagship and first-class tower, which will position both Panama as Latin America, forefront of global gems and jewelry industry” stones.
