Movie theatres in Panama are looking to expand and reach sectors that had never before enjoyed theaters. That is why it has been announced for this 2016, is scheduled to open three to four movie theaters, each with several screening rooms. * Currently, Panama has 99 cinema screens, spread across 14 complexes movie screenings. This figure will increase considerably during 2016.

* During this year, the launch of three to four movie theatres in Panama are expected: One cinema in Alta Plaza Mall (Via Centenario), another one in Mega Mall (24 de Diciembre) and two cinemas in Costa del Este.

One of the favorite activities of Panamanians, residents and tourists in Panama certainly is going to the movies. The offer of movie theatre in Panama has grown rapidly over the years. The population growth, among other things, has been one of the factors that has contributed to construction and opening of more and modern spaces to watch movies, as well as an extensive program of attractive titles to the masses. Rising attendance reports theaters are also a reflection of the increasing population in Panama, which spent 3.4 million in 2010 to 3.9 million, according to statistical projections of the Comptroller General of the Republic. Michael Joseph, president of the Association of Film Distributors and manager of United International Pictures (UIP), explains that the annual agenda of film titles that capture the attention of viewers and keeps the expectation, is primarily responsible for the boom recorded by the box office in 2015. The record attendance in 2015 to movie theatres, was 5 million 750 thousand people, according to the annual report of the Association of Film Distributors. This amount exceeds the local register of 2014, when 5 million 79 thousand tickets were purchased to see the best and the worst that offers the industry the seventh art that comes mostly from Hollywood. In the case of Alta Plaza Mall, will be featured two new formats in Panama: The IMAX (consisting of a giant screen from end to end in the front of the room) and 4D (the one that complements the experience audiovisual vibration, aromas and other special effects).
