The consortium led by Sacyr executing the works to expand the Canal project will culminate on November the delivery of the last four gates to be installed at the new locks, they will arrive from Italy, where they have been manufactured.

According to information published by the news portal El Economista, constructors will meet the deadline in advance for the arrival of all gates, set for January 2015 in accordance with the contract amendment signed this year with the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) who date the completition of the work by early 2016.

The consortium said in a statement that the carriage of the 16 gates to be installed at the new Canal locks, is one of the major technical challenges of the project, “not only because of the enormous weight of the gates, but for its size, making it difficult maneuvering and navigation on land. “The vessel in charge of moving the gate is ‘Xia Zhi Yaun’. In total, the new locks that are built for Canal expansion will have a total of 16 gates, eight Pacific Coast and eight in the Atlantic.
