On Sunday, May 17, Panamanians will have the opportunity, for the first time in history, to enjoy a tour on the new Panama Canal locks before they are filled with water. This activity, which will allow family enjoyment, comes as an initiative of the Panama Canal Authority in conjunction with the contractor Grupo Unidos por el Canal (GUPC).

* The activity will allow visitors to have a tour on the new lock chamber adjacent to the Pacific, which will soon be filled with water to make way for the operation of the expanded canal.

* Visitors wishing to attend, may arrive to Cocolí between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. From the parking sector, will be buses transporting visitors to the expanded Canal for there to meet and take pictures inside the new Pacific locks.

* This activity entry to children under 12 is prohibited, and will also be prohibited from entering liquor and pets.

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) in conjunction with the contractor Grupo Unidos por el Canal (GUPC), will hold a historical activity this Sunday May 17, as the Panamanians have the opportunity to take a tour of the interior one of the chambers of the new locks of the Canal in the Pacific, before they are filled with water.

According to information published by La Estrella website, the dynamics of the activity consists on visitors arriving to Cocolí sector between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm and from the parking lots, buses will move visitors to the expanded canal. It is estimated that each trip will take an average of 45 minutes.

Once in the area, visitors can take a tour of the new locks, and have the opportunity to enter one chamber before the locks are filled with water.

This family activity, to be held in a construction area, will have some security measures for visitors. The main thing is to wear long pants, sneakers or boots. Further, it is not allowed to carry liquor, coolers, pets or use of drones. Also, it is prohibited from entering children under 12 years.
